The Brother P-touch PT-D410 is the best label maker for most offices. It prints on Brother TZe tapes up to 18mm (about 3/4 inch) wide, has a QWERTY keyboard and a 2-line display, and prints barcodes on its own. It also connects to a PC or Mac by USB, so you can design labels with barcodes, images and QR codes in Brother’s free P-touch Editor software. Brother includes the AC adapter. For simple desk labeling, the PT-D220 is the smaller keyboard model. The P-touch CUBE Plus PT-P710BT is for designing labels on a phone, tablet or computer. The PT-H111 P-touch Pro is the handheld with cable-labeling keys, and the Epson LabelWorks LW-K200PX is the Epson alternative, with a lifetime warranty.

Specs come from Brother’s product pages and the Epson LabelWorks product page, checked October 9, 2026. All five are thermal transfer label makers, which print on cartridge tapes rather than shipping labels.
1. Brother P-touch PT-D410: best for most offices
The PT-D410 covers the most office jobs on its own. Its keyboard and 15-character, 2-line display handle quick labels for folders, shelves and equipment, and it stores up to 50 labels for reprinting. Brother lists barcode printing both in standalone mode and when it’s connected to a computer. Plug it into a PC or Mac with the included USB cable, and P-touch Editor adds templates, barcodes, images and QR codes.
- Tapes: TZe tapes in 3.5, 6, 9, 12 and 18mm widths, printing up to 2 lines.
- Built-in design tools: 30 preset templates, 15 fonts, 13 font styles, 120 frames and over 700 symbols.
- Power: 6 AA batteries (not included) or the included AC adapter.
- Warranty: 2-year limited.
Trade-offs: Brother lists no mobile printing app, so it doesn’t print from a phone. At 7.4 x 7.0 x 2.8 inches, it’s the largest keyboard model here.
2. Brother P-touch PT-D220: best for everyday desk labeling
The PT-D220 is the simpler keyboard model for drawers, files and cords. It prints on TZe tapes up to 12mm (about 1/2 inch) wide, with up to 2 lines of text, and its 15-character display lets you preview a label before printing.
- Tapes: TZe tapes in 3.5, 6, 9 and 12mm widths. A 12mm black-on-white sample tape is in the box.
- Built-in design tools: 25 preset templates, 14 fonts, 11 font styles, 99 frames and over 600 symbols. It stores up to 30 labels.
- Power: 6 AAA batteries or an AC adapter, neither included.
- Size: 6.2 x 5.9 x 2.7 inches.
- Warranty: 1-year limited.
Trade-offs: Brother lists no barcode printing and no mobile printing app, and no USB cable comes in the box, so all design happens on the keyboard. If you need wider labels or barcodes, step up to the PT-D410.
3. Brother P-touch CUBE Plus PT-P710BT: best for designing labels on a phone or computer
The CUBE Plus has no keyboard or screen. Brother says it prints labels up to 24mm (about 1 inch) wide from a smartphone, tablet or laptop over Bluetooth, and from a desktop with the included USB cable. You design labels in the free Brother iPrint&Label or P-touch Design&Print 2 apps, or in P-touch Editor on a computer.
- Labels: up to 4 lines of text, with barcodes in standalone mode or when connected to a computer.
- Office features: database printing from Excel, and up to 100 stored labels.
- Power: a built-in Li-ion battery.
- In the box: a 24mm black-on-white starter tape, a 24mm black-on-gold glitter starter tape and the USB cable.
- Size: 5 x 2.6 x 5 inches.
- Warranty: 1-year limited.
Trade-offs: Every label starts on a phone, tablet or computer, which is slower for a quick one-word label than typing on a keyboard model.
4. Brother PT-H111 P-touch Pro: best for cables, panels and workspaces
The PT-H111 is a handheld with dedicated one-touch keys for Cable Wrap, Cable Flag, Faceplate and Serialize. Brother says those keys and its built-in templates are designed for cable, telecom and wire panel labeling. That makes it the pick for labeling a network closet, a desk full of cords or a shared equipment shelf.
- Tapes: TZe tapes up to 12mm wide. The box includes a 12mm x 26.2-foot (8m) Flexible ID laminated tape.
- Keyboard and memory: a QWERTY keyboard, an integrated cutter and memory for up to 9 labels.
- Fonts and symbols: 3 fonts and over 300 symbols, including workshop and worksite symbols.
- Power: 6 AAA batteries or an AC adapter, each sold separately. A detachable wrist strap is included.
- Warranty: 1-year limited.
Trade-offs: It stores fewer labels and has fewer fonts than the PT-D220, and Brother lists no standalone barcode printing.
5. Epson LabelWorks LW-K200PX: best Epson alternative
The LW-K200PX is a compact keyboard label maker from Epson’s LabelWorks PX line. Epson’s comparison table lists a QWERTY keyboard, a 9-character, 2-row LCD and tapes from 6 to 18mm, plus heat-shrink tube up to 5mm. Epson rates the print resolution at 180 dpi and the maximum print speed at 6mm per second.
- Supplies: Epson says it works with 100 compatible label supplies across its industrial and designer series, including ribbon, metallic and fluorescent finishes.
- Fonts and cutter: 14 built-in fonts and a manual cutter.
- Power and size: 6 AA batteries (not included), about 6.8 x 4.29 x 2.9 inches and about 1 lb without batteries and tape.
- Warranty: lifetime, through Epson LabelWorks.
- Colors: blue and white (LW-K200PX-DBL) or black and red (LW-K200PX-RDB).
Trade-offs: It uses Epson LabelWorks PX supplies rather than Brother TZe tapes, and Epson lists a 10mm minimum margin.
How to choose a label maker
- Pick the tape system first. The four Brother models list TZe tapes, and the Epson uses LabelWorks PX supplies. If an office will share tape across several machines, stay with one system.
- Choose the width you need. A 12mm maximum (PT-D220, PT-H111) suits files, drawers and cords. An 18mm maximum (PT-D410, LW-K200PX) leaves more room for 2 lines. The CUBE Plus prints up to 24mm for bins, shelves and barcodes.
- Decide where labels get designed. The keyboard models work on their own. The PT-D410 adds P-touch Editor on a PC or Mac over USB, and the CUBE Plus works only through apps or computer software.
- Check for barcodes. Brother lists barcode printing for the PT-D410 and the CUBE Plus. It doesn’t list it for the PT-D220, and the PT-H111 has no standalone barcodes.
- Match the tool to specialty jobs. For network and power cables, the PT-H111 has one-touch Cable Wrap and Cable Flag keys and ships with Flexible ID tape. The LW-K200PX lists heat-shrink tube up to 5mm.
- Plan for power. Only the PT-D410 includes an AC adapter, and the CUBE Plus has a built-in Li-ion battery. The others need AAA or AA batteries or an adapter you buy separately.

FAQ
Can these label makers print barcodes?
Two of them list it. Brother lists barcodes in standalone mode and when connected to a computer for both the PT-D410 and the P-touch CUBE Plus PT-P710BT. The PT-D220 doesn’t list barcoding, and the PT-H111 lists no standalone barcodes.
Do all Brother P-touch label makers use the same tapes?
The four Brother models here all list Brother TZe tapes, but the maximum width differs: 12mm for the PT-D220 and PT-H111, 18mm for the PT-D410, and 24mm for the CUBE Plus. Epson’s LW-K200PX uses Epson LabelWorks PX supplies instead.
Are TZe labels water-resistant?
Brother says its laminated TZe tapes are water-, fade- and chemical-resistant and suit indoor and outdoor use.
